Grunt Nuts is a small, family-run walnut farm in Missouri.
We believe in doing things the right way — building something that lasts.
Eastern black walnut — selected for Missouri
We're planting grafted eastern black walnut (Juglans nigra) — chosen for nut quality, disease resistance, and performance in Central Missouri silvopasture. These are the two cultivars going in the ground for Grunt Nuts.
Developed by the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry — Missouri's first patented black walnut cultivar bred for orchard nut production. Hickman bears early (often around five years), produces well on spur wood, and delivers a high kernel percentage with light-colored, well-filled nuts.
We're proud to grow a cultivar born in Missouri soil, from the same breeding program working to build a regional black walnut industry.
A long-established black walnut selection known for excellent nut quality, anthracnose resistance, and reliable production. Medium to large nuts with strong kernel crackout — a trusted choice for growers building serious nut orchards in the Midwest.
Paired with Hickman, Sauber gives us proven genetics alongside MU's newest release as we establish our first plantings.

Grunt Nuts was born from a desire to build something lasting for our family and community. Starting a farm from the ground up isn't easy — but neither was anything else worth doing. We're proud of what this land will become, and we're committed to doing it right.
